As you are undoubtedly aware, the Supreme Court two years ago
eviscerated parts of the Voting Rights Act, immediately after which
several states passed draconian laws whose result has already proven to
suppress votes. Many groups, JSPAN among them, are seeking to have
Congress rectify the situation. Please press here to read more and sign a petition in support of the Voting Restoration Act.
Please call Senator Kerry today at (202) 224-2742 with the following message:
"Thank you for heading the first Congressional delegation to Darfur since 2007 and your commitment to ending the genocide. I live in [Name of State] but write to you in your capacity as Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. I am extremely concerned by the Obama Administration's statement that it is giving the Government of Sudan 30 days to restore humanitarian aid to Darfur in exchange for talks on normalizing relations with the U.S. It is more than one month since aid workers were expelled.
Below is the sample letter:
Subject: Please Oppose Any Efforts to Move SB 1250 Out of Committee!
As your constituent, I urge you not to support SB 1250, the so-called "Marriage Protection Amendment," or any other Constitutional Amendment that would deny legal recognition of unmarried families.
Senate Bill 1250 was tabled on May 6 in the Pennsylvania Senate.

Re: Action Alert and Talking Points on Situation in Southern Israel and Gaza StripAction: Urge your Congressmen to co-sponsor/vote YES on H.Res. 951 condemning rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip to Israeli towns.
On February 27, 2008 the House Foreign Affairs Committee approved a resolution (H.Res.
Immigration Reform may come to a vote on the Senate floor as early as this Thursday. Anti-immigrant groups have been very vocal and those who support a progressive immigration policy need to make phone calls every day in order to help balance this small but very loud voice. Because Senator Frist’s bill is under consideration, there is a very real threat that the Senate could pass an enforcement bill similar to the restrictive and punitive Sensenbrenner bill that cleared the House last year. If this happens, it could easily move through conference committee and become law. We urge our Pennsylvania members to call their senators.
Check back frequently for important upcoming events.
Further urgent action is now needed in Congress to pass the Darfur Peace and Accountability Act, which would strengthen civilian protection and allocate $ 50 million dollars in the final FY06 military appropriations bill to support the African Union mission in Sudan.
JSPAN Action Alert - National Marrow Donor Program
The National Bone Marrow Donor Registry Act, which provides federal funding for unrelated donor registries and related services, expires every five years and requires re-authorization. Last fall, the House of Representatives passed a bill (HR 3034), but re-authorization is slow in making its way through the committee process in the Senate. The matter is presently under consideration in the Senate Health, Education, Welfare and Pensions (HELP) Committee.
